Queensland Oaks 2016 Betting Tips & Selections

After last weekend’s Eagle Farm wash-out the 2016 Queensland Oaks runs on Stradbroke Handicap Day this Saturday, betting tips for the updated and rescheduled fillies’ classic found below.

Due to close the card as Race 10 at 4:20pm (AEST), a capacity field of 18 contest this season’s $500,000 Group 1 Treasury Casino & Hotel Queensland Oaks (2400m).

Firm favourite in Queensland Oaks betting this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival at $6.50 is the classy Bjorn Baker-trained daughter of Makfi Imposing Lass.

She won the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) two back before her third in the traditional Oaks lead-up, Doomben’s Group 2 The Roses (2000m) on May 21.

She was beaten only 1.5 lengths in the Group 2 from a wide gate 15 of 16 draw and will relish her more favourable barrier on the weekend as she steps out over the mile and a half for the first time.

Her biggest dangers in the Queensland Oaks odds are Peter & Paul Snowden’s improving daughter of More Than Ready Falkenberg ($7), the Kiwi visitor Provocative (8) and the widely-drawn Dawnie Perfect ($9) for dual Oaks winning horseman Clarry Conners.

So are the best in betting the ones to back or is there value tipping a Queensland Oaks upset from the likes of The Roses winner Kebede ($13) or recent Sydney winner Romantic Maid ($10) who is also over from New Zealand?

1st

#4 Imposing Lass ($6.50)

The favourites have a nice recent Queensland Oaks record including Winx last year and we’re sticking with the bookies’ top fancy again this winter. Baker’s consistent filly won three on the trot before her brave The Roses third and is bred to handle the extra metres she’ll see on Saturday. She’s got the right form, breeding and consistency to salute for the punters here from a nice draw.

2nd

#6 Sebring Sally ($17)

Really think there’s a lot of value on offer in this year’s Queensland Oaks markets including in this Chris Waller-trained daughter of Sebring. Hugh Bowman comes aboard The Roses runner-up (at $81) who is only set to improve getting out over more metres. She’s a Black-Type winner over 2100m in Tasmania from the summer and looks set to finish in the money here again.

3rd

#1 Ambience ($12)

Another top three hope at double-figures, this John O’Shea-trained daughter of Street Cry has work to do from barrier 17 of 18, but has the time and staying ability to overcome the draw with James McDonald in the saddle. Two back in Sydney she was narrow runner-up in the Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) at this distance, and she also placed third in the spring’s Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) on a Heavy track at Flemington. Her 12th in The Roses left a bit to be desired, but if she’s found her footing in Queensland can surprise.
