One of a host of John OâShea-trained Sydney raiders at Flemington this Victoria Derby Day jumping favourite is Ambience in the 2015 Wakeful Stakes who leads a tight betting market for the filliesâ feature.
Running as Flemington Race 2 at 12:20pm (AEST) on Saturday, this yearâs $300,000 Group 2 Mumm Wakeful Stakes (2000m) features a final field of 15 three-year-old fillies.
Four of those are under double figures for the win in the latest Wakeful Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, who are offering an Extra 50% on your very first Fixed Odds winning in Flemington Races 1 â 5 this Derby Day.
Sitting as the $4 favourite after easing out from $3.60, Ambience is drawn a treat in barrier three with the in-form James McDonald taking the mount on the in-form daughter of Street Cry.
Having her first run at Flemington, Ambience won the Listed Dulcify Quality (1600m) by an impressive two and a half lengths at Randwick at the start of the month before her Melbourne debut on October 17 when third to Dawnie Perfect in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes (2000m).
With a run over the distance under her belt, Ambience is tipped to improve this weekend and just needs a clear run to do it.
Hot on her heels in the Wakeful Stakes betting markets at a firming $4.60 in from $6 is Robert Smerdonâs Group 2 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic (1600m) on Cox Plate Day last Saturday My Poppette.
She had the inside alley and thrived to enjoy a runaway two and three-quarter length win in the mile clash looking right on track for her first run at 2000m this Saturday.
The daughter of Snippetson has another charmed inside alley with Dwayne Dunn riding her from barrier two as she returns to a track she has a nice record at (4-1-1-1).
The other two single figure Wakeful Stakes hopes this Melbourne Cup Carnival are Dawnie Perfect ($6) in barrier four with Jim Cassidy in the saddle and Muzkya ($7.50) out wide in gate 13.
Clarry Conners is taking his Big Brown filly down the same path as his three previous Crown Oaks winners looking to take out next Thursdayâs $1 million classic over 2500m for a fourth time, Dawnie Perfect coming off the Ethereal Stakes win from Caulfield Cup Day.
Muzkya is also a last start winner, Gerald Ryanâs Danehill Dancer filly having saluted by an impressive five and a quarter-lengths over 2100m at Wyong on October 17.
At more generous odds and after an upset Wakeful Stakes result this weekend are the likes of the rails-drawn Adelaide raider Beluga Blue ($11) for last Saturdayâs Cox Plate winning jockey Hugh Bowman who comes off a black-type win over 1800m at Morphettville from three weeks ago and the lightly-raced David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Dawn Of Hope ($16) in the outside alley.
